The problem has always been finding them in any kind of decent condition. Most were hacked about after falling into private hands in Stalin days. We found this one in a remote garage in Eastern Europe, where it had been for some considerable time. Once upon a time on display in a museum, the jeep had since come into private hands and a considerable restoration embarked upon, but had not been completed.
We decided to purchase the vehicle and start again from scratch, stripping everything down. Thankfully the work had been done to a very high standard. The engine had undergone reboring and new pistons/rings fitted. Along with many new parts.
New wiring has been made up along with a new hood. Everything - and I mean everything worn has been replaced. We have had new brake drums machined from solid steel to exact original specifications.
With restoration, we have one aim - to carry out work to the highest standard.
For overseas customers, the sale will include for transport logistics to your front door. We have a dedicated department to deal with this.
A Brief History...
In 1938, with the start of WW II, the Russian Automobile Co., GAZ, started the development and production of 4x4 vehicles for the Russian Army.
The GAZ-67 and the subsequent GAZ-67B were general purpose four wheel drive vehicles.
GAZ-67 was a further development of the earlier GAZ-64. A main improvement was a wider track and a strengthened chassis frame. GAZ-67 was powered by a slightly more powerful 54 hp version of the GAZ M1 4-cylinder 3280 cc petrol engine, and had a top speed of 90 km/h. Production started on 23 September 1943 (the first serial vehicle produced). From January 1944 it was replaced by the GAZ-67B, offering mechanical improvements. Production ended in Autumn 1953. 92,843 were produced from the 2nd half of World War II until the Korean War. GAZ 67 was the Soviet Unions version of the American Willys Jeep.
Some GAZ drivers will tell you that in Towing and in off-road performance, the GAZ-67 was superior to the Willys, Bantam and Ford Jeeps. The GAZ-67 also had the benefit of having 2 fuel tanks: the main tank in the cowl, and another fuel tank under the driver's seat. The GAZ could use multi fuels, including kerosene and “low-test gasoline” which was a big advantage on the WW II battlefields.
The jeep is in absolute first class condition - we are extremely proud of it. The workmanship epitimises what Russianmilitary is all about.
