Looking for an OT-64 in prime condition - then look no further than this - just arrived, lovely example. Very collectable and hugely popular, why? The Czechs made here there own version of the BTR60, but installed a Diesel instead of having 2 Petrol (Benzene) engines. Therefore, you get greatly improved fuel economy. And of course being Czech the standard of engineering is in a class of its own.

Rather than employ the Soviet BTR-60P series of 8x8 APCs, Czechoslovakia and Poland decided to develop their own vehicle. The OT-64 (Obrneny Transporter) 8x8 uses many of the automotive parts of the Tatra 813 heavy truck series and entered service in 1964. The Czechoslovak company Tatra produced the chassis and automotive parts while the Polish firm FSC of Lubin produced the armoured body. The Polish designation for the vehicle was Sredni Kolowy Opancerzny Transporter (SKOT), OT-64 being the Czech designation. It is still in service with 13 countries worldwide.

The main advantages of the OT-64 over the Soviet vehicle are that the former is powered by one diesel instead of two petrol engines and that the troop compartment is enclosed.
The hull of the OT-64 is of all-welded steel construction providing protection from small arms fire and shell splinters, the maximum hull armour thickness being 10 mm (0.39 in). The commander and driver are seated at the front of the vehicle with the engine to their immediate rear. At the rear is the troop compartment, which is accessed by two rear doors. Roof hatches are provided over the troop compartment, and firing ports are located in the sides and rear. The OT-64 is amphibious, being driven in the water by two propellers at 9 km/h (5.6 mph). All vehicles have night-vision equipment, a front-mounted winch and an NBC system.

The crew compartment is in the front of the vehicle, with the driver on the left-hand side and the s in the front of the vehicle commander on the right. Each has a large single door in the side of the vehicle for access to the crew cab and also a hatch in the roof of the compartment. The driver has three vision blocks which provide views to the front and sides. The engine compartment is behind the crew cab and is mounted over the second axle with the air inlet and outlets on the roof and the exhaust pipes on either side of the vehicle. Behind the engine is an octagonal plinth on top of which sits the turret. The turret is operated by one man and has no hatch in the top of it. To the rear of this is the troop compartment which runs to the rear of the vehicle and has room for eight men inside. At the rear are the main entry and exit doors, both of which are fitted with firing ports. There are four roof hatches above the troop compartment, all of which are also fitted with firing ports, which can be locked in the vertical position and used as shields when using the firing ports. There are also a further two ports in each side of the troop compartment.

OT-64 varaints
The original member of the family, the OT-64A (or SKOT in Poland) was sometimes fitted with a roof-mounted 7.62-mm (0.3-in) machine-gun. The OT-64B (SKOT-2) used by Poland has on the roof behind the engine compartment a plinth carrying a 762-mm (0.3-in) or 12.7-mm (0.5-in) machine-gun

The OT-64C(l) or SKOT-2A has a one-man turret identical to that fitted to the BTR-60PB 8x8 APC and BRDM-2 4x4 scout car, and carrying a 14.5-mm (0.57-in) and 762-mm machine-gun. The OT-64C(2) or SKOT-2AP used by Poland has a new turret with a distinctive curved top which has the same armament as the turret of the OT-64CM but with an elevation of +89.5° to facilitate the engagement of aerial targets. Other more specialised versions include a recovery vehicle and at least three command vehicles, designated R-2M and R-3MT and R-4MT.
